Welcome to the Center of the Weird Universe

I woke up this morning to the sounds of a leaf blower in my yard. I don’t own a leaf blower, and the significant other was still asleep.

I looked out my front window.

There is a woman, in a bikini, with a parasol, and a leaf blower, blowing my sidewalk.

Uhm, thank you for blowing my sidewalk…

She wandered off down the road, blowing everyone’s sidewalk as she went. ?????????!!!!!!!!

The Coat (and Hat) of Chaos

Doesn’t that sound like a great name for a Greek hero opus? Or, are opuses only for music? In which case, I guess it would be an epic.

And epic is exactly what this coat is! I made a winter jacket for my grand-baby, Princess Chaos. I do believe it is the nicest thing I have ever made! I meant to do a tutorial for how to make this, along the lines of:

Doesn’t she do wonderful work?! But, half way through the construction, I got so wrapped up in the sewing, that I forgot to take pictures of the steps, and didn’t realize my folly until I was sewing the lining in (last step). So, unfortunately, no tutorial…however, I do have pixs of the finished project!

It is three layers. The top layer is a synthetic material that looks like crushed velvet (but cheaper). Inside is a layer of heavy linen for warmth. The outer layer is a poly-satin blend that is silky smooth.

Here, I tried to show a close-up of the lining and collar detail. I don’t know how to fix the color issues this picture has. I am no photography genius.

Entire project cost roughly $35.00 and used two yards of my stash material (the linen and the lining). I bought the buttons and the crushed velvet, which I bought enough of to also make her a pair of stretchy pants and a matching winter hat, as well as a matching cape for her Oma! (me!)

Job satisfaction on this project, 100%! Time to complete: 13 hours.

I plan on making some additional ones, out of fleece I have in my stash. I will make them a little simpler and less ornate, and in various sizes, and have them in my store soon. I think they might be terrific sellers!

A few days later, I finished the hat of chaos!

All that is left is the pants, and a t-shirt that I got a nice little iron-on for!

Pix-A-Day: My Lunch

The significant other is out of town for three days, and I am still not eating hard food after last week’s dental surgery, so on the way home from Hancock’s Fabric yesterday, I stopped at the new PhoLamour Noodle House.

I wrote a review for it on Urban Spoon. You can see it here:

http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/285/1823706/restaurant/Pho-Lamour-Shreveport#posts It’s the one entitled “It’s OK, but…”

Doesn’t it look yummy? It smelled pretty awesome, too. Unfortunately, looks and smells don’t tell the whole story. Fortunately, however, it has provided 2 lunches and a supper, with still more in the fridge, so I haven’t had to cook while the significant other has been gone. Yeah for me!

Gotta Find that Dress…

The significant other was watching NCIS the other day, and my favorite goth/scientist/super slueth/fashion plate, Abby Sciuto (Paula Perrette) had on a killer dress.

It was not Abby’s usual black (at least not completely). It had a green Peter Pan type collar, and a sheer black part from the collar to the top of the bodice. From the bodice down, including the skirt, was the same deep green as the collar. The skirt was full, almost like a short version of a circle skirt. I loved that dress. I’m going to try and make it…however,…

The significant other erased the episode after he watched it. I couldn’t begin to tell you what it was about–apparently I only paid attention to the dress.

I managed, after a couple of hours of thinking about it, while sewing snaps onto the winter coat I am making for Princess Chaos, to determine that it is “Phoenix”, Episode 3, from Season 10. Now, Netflix doesn’t have NCIS in their online library. Hulu re-directed me to CBS.com. CBS.com only had episodes 5-24 from Season 10. None of the season 10 trailers on You Tube showed THAT DRESS.

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need to see that dress again, so I can make a sketch.

Can anyone give me a clue AS TO WHERE I CAN FIND THAT EPISODE? HELP!
